A Firefighter

Firefighters are not just there for Structure Fires like they are portrayed. In our department Firefighters are versatile individuals that work as a team and are asked to do many jobs. Jobs ranging anywhere from Structure fires to Elevator rescues. In our geographical area the department runs a lot of Motor Vehicle Accidents. This requires special skills in the patient removal without further hurting them. Firefighters are expected to take classes to learn how to operate as Firefighters & Rescuers.

Training

Not all classes are mandatory Some classes are specialty classes which can be attended on a voluntary basis such as:

Diving

Ice Rescue

Ropes

Confined Space

Trench Rescue

Elevator Rescue

Just to name a few…

There is no need to have any experience although it is welcomed.

Training is not easy but it is not hard as long as you pay attention you can pass all the classes. Most classes are able to be worked around most work schedules and some classes are on the weekend. For those of you wondering who pays for all this….. Well you will not be paying for any training the department will pay for all training .
